At ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ, we'll strive to ensure you have everything you need to help your employees learn about the Federal Education and Development Program and encourage them to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
Each training officer should determine how to use the alliance to best serve the needs of his or her agency. For example, if a number of employees express interest in UMGC and inquire about the tuition discount or admissions policies of UMGC, it is important for training officers to be able to assist these employees. Additionally, if training officers want to promote the benefits of this alliance or incorporate UMGC programs into their career paths, UMGC will provide them with the tools and assistance necessary to do this.
UMGC has created a toolkit of resources you can use to inform your employees. They include sample e-mails and flyers, as well as UMGC logos that you can incorporate into your materials. UMGC will establish a single point of contact for your employees.
UMGC would be glad to work with you to schedule webinars for your employees. These hour-long sessions, which include a question and answer period, are an easy way for employees to learn more about UMGC, the alliance benefits, and how to get started at UMGC.
The tuition discount applies to out-of-state tuition only. Maryland residents already receive the in-state tuition rate, which is even lower than the discounted out-of-state rate. According to University System of Maryland policy, UMGC cannot provide a discount for the in-state rate.
Employees living in Maryland may be disappointed to learn that there is no discount on in-state tuition, but you can emphasize that the in-state and military rates are UMGC's lowest tuition rates, well below even the discounted out-of-state rate, so these students are actually saving a lot of money.
The discount does not apply to all programs. It does apply to all undergraduate programs. It also applies to most graduate programs. The exceptions are programs with specialty graduate tuition and doctoral programs. These programs have the same tuition rate for all students, in-state and out-of-state, and do not qualify for any discounts.
The discount for Federal employees and their spouses and eligible dependents will be applied to out-of-state tuition and specialty graduate programs. It does not apply to doctoral programs. This discount cannot be combined with the Completion Scholarship for Maryland community college students or the Pennsylvania Completion Scholarship.
Undergraduate and standard graduate program tuition for students who meet the criteria for Maryland residency will be the applicable in-state rate. Tuition for active-duty military; members of the Selected Reserves, National Guard, and the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and the spouses and dependents of these student groups will be the applicable military or specialty rate. If you are a student using Post 9/11 benefits, please contact an advisor at 800-939-8682 to determine if you can apply both benefits.
No, unless they are the spouses or dependents of Federal government employees. Only Federal government employees, spouses, and dependents are eligible for the discount.
Yes. UMGC can help you address skills gaps within your workforce. We can help you identify the right UMGC program or certificate at the undergraduate or graduate level aligned to your organization's competencies and career paths. We can even customize each course with case studies, projects, and discussion topics designed specifically for your agency.
If you request an enrollment report, we will provide a report specific to your agency following each semester (spring, summer, and fall). The report will include the total amount spent by your employees at UMGC, the total discount received, the number of employees enrolled, the number completing courses and programs, the top programs employees are pursuing, and the monthly traffic on the landing page.
No. UMGC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing an education alliance with OPM. This MOU provides all Federal employees, their spouses, and their dependents with a waiver of the application fee for new applicants and discount of up to 25 percent on out-of-state tuition and specialty graduate programs.
UMGC will be happy to attend events (e.g., education fairs, benefits fairs, brown bag lunches, etc.) held in the D.C. metro area. If your event is held outside the D.C. metro area, we will determine whether we have available UMGC staff in that area. To learn more, please e-mailÌý³Ü²õ.
Yes. If you have at least 25 students for a course, UMGC can offer it to your employees online in a closed cohort. This means that only your employees would be enrolled in that particular section.
If this is a course that UMGC regularly offers in a hybrid format, we can also teach the closed cohort section at your location in the D.C. metro area.
Federal employees can earn credit in a variety of ways, including internal training.
Yes. UMGC can provide grades to an employer at the student's request as long as the student has submitted a Student Records Release form authorizing UMGC to share grades with the employer. UMGC can also provide a grade report to the student that can be shared with his or her employer.
