VetSuccess on Campus

VetSuccess on Campus is a nationwide U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs program that helps veterans transition from military service to college and beyond. It is designed to ensure that veteran students have the support and assistance they need to be successful in higher education, their careers, and their lives. ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ is a proud participant in this program.

Through theÌýÌýprogram, VA places experienced vocational rehabilitation counselors on college campuses to assist the growing number of servicemembers, veterans, and dependents attending school under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and other VA educational programs.

VetSuccess on Campus Services

VetSuccess on Campus counselors are trained to provide academic and vocational guidance to veterans and can help with the following areas and more:

  • Helping connect veterans to VA benefits, including healthcare and mental health services
  • Providing assistance to students signing up for health, education, and other VA benefits
  • Helping students choose a major, set career goals, search for a job, and adjust to civilian life
  • Referring students to local VA Vet Centers, VA medical facilities, and other services as needed

Eligibility for VetSuccess on Campus Services

VetSuccess on Campus services are available to servicemembers and veterans eligible for any of VA's educational programs, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill, as well as VA's Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program. These counselors may be able to assist dependents of veterans who are receiving VA education benefits, including eligible spouses attending school through the Post-9/11 GI Bill and eligible dependent children.

Meet Our VA Counselors

Our VA counselors, Danielle Johnson and Nicole Julien-Thomas, are experienced, trained vocational rehabilitation counselors who serve UMGC student veterans by appointment during in-person office hours at multiple Washington, D.C.-area UMGC locations and online via Zoom.

Workshop Wednesdays

The Veterans Initiatives Office invites you to Workshop Wednesdays, which take place on theÌýfirst and third Wednesdays of each month, from 11:30 a.m to noon ET via Zoom. Get exciting information and interact with our special guests online.

Student Veterans Lounge

UMGC staff maintain in-person office hours at the Col Floyd G. and Lt Col Dona R. Hildebrand Student Veterans Lounge at our Dorsey Station location. The normal office hours are Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. If classes are held at the location on any given day, those hours change to 5–8 p.m.
